As mentioned, vitamin E is divided into eight natural forms. A ninth form, dL-alpha-tocopherol, can be produced artificially. It is a racemate made from left-handed and right-handed alpha-tocopherol. Natural tocopherols are always present in the RRR configuration. The biological effects of the eight forms of vitamin E differ.
