In 1938, chemist Roy Plunkett, as an employee of the DuPont company, rather accidentally invented the substance that is known by the chemical name PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) or is better known by the name TEFLON. Today, the material is distributed by an outsourced company named Chemours. The young scientist wanted to invent a better refrigerator and experimented with the gas tetrafluoroethylene, which he pressurized and froze. The result was a whitish powder, which then became very popular.
