Different foods vary in their deuterium level. This is due, among other things, to the fact that deuterium is stored primarily in carbohydrates. All foods that are high in carbohydrates consequently have a high deuterium level, such as sugar, white flour products, fruit, corn, and potatoes. Foods that are low in carbohydrates are usually low in deuterium, such as green vegetables.
