The goal of buteycotherapy is to get your body's CO₂ levels back up to normal, so you can lose chronic hyperventilation syndrome again, to have normal breathing physiology again. The way to do this is to increase your control pause (CP). If you reach a value of 20–30 seconds of CP, then there are often so-called cleansing reactions, in which the immune system becomes more active and tackles chronic problems.
