For decades, universities have been teaching the so-called somatic mutation theory, meaning the development of cancer as a result of multiple mutations of the genetic material. That there are rare cases of congenital germline mutations from which cancer can arise is undisputed. But is the "normal" development of cancer simply a silly coincidence following a series of DNA damages?
